W. E. MATTER, BOROUGH COUNCILMAN, PASSED AWAY FRIDAY
William E. Matter, age 62 years, a [Elizabethville] Borough Councilman, died at his home, West Main street, town, Friday afternoon, following an illness of several months.
Mr. Matter was a son of the late Daniel Matter and Lovina [Miller] Matter, and was a native of Upper Paxton Township. He had been a resident of this community twenty-nine years, where he at one time had been engaged in the retail meat business.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Elizabethville, and was a member of the Church Council, serving as a trustee at the time of his death.
Mr. Matter was completing his third four-year term as a member of the Borough council at the time of his passing. He had also previously served as President of the borough body, and had received the Democratic Party nomination for councilman for the fourth time, at the primary election last month, Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Martha [Erdman] Matter; one daughter, Grace Matter, Mrs. Marlin Henninger, of Berrysburg; and four grandchildren. Other survivors are a brother, John Matter, of Killinger; and two sisters, Mrs. Phoebe Lehman, of Elizabethville; and Mrs. Henry Miller, of Millersburg.
Funeral services were held from the residence at 10:00 o’clock Tuesday morning, with further services in Salem Lutheran Church. The pastor, Rev. W. Z. Artz, officiated, and interment was made in Maple Grove Cemetery.
