St. Jacob Lutheran Church, also known as Miller’s, is located in Jackson Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The Parish Register containing records of baptisms, marriages, and deaths, is available for the years 1869-1965.
The introductory page states the following:
“The early record of this congregation, popularly known as Miller’s, in Armstrong Valley, bears a date of baptism as early as 23 April 1828, and deeds show that the nine acres of land now the property of the Lutheran and Reformed congregations, were donated in small tracts by several of the members, a number of years after the date of the first baptism.” [From] S. E. Ochensford and O. E. Pflueger, ed., Jubilee Memorial Volume of the Danville Conference, 105.
Apparently the earliest record has been lost, for the oldest record now known to exist includes the dates 1869-1965. This record (1968) in the possession of Mr. George Kolva, R.D. 1, Halifax, Pennsylvania, who is a member of the congregation which is no longer Lutheran. Mr. Kolva made the record available for copying.
The following is a transcript of the baptisms, marriages, burials, and historical data contained in the record book. The earliest entries are in German, but very soon they are in English. Not copied here are the lists of members and communicants.
These records were copied under the direction of the undersigned by Mr. W. E. Hutchison.
[sig] Pastor Frederick S. Weiser, Archivist, Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg [Adams County], Pennsylvania, February 1968.
The register is 60 pages in length and is indexed by surname (5 pages).
The originals were transcribed at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania, and microfilm copies were first made available to churches, libraries and the public. Several years ago, the transcribed pages were also digitized and uploaded to Ancestry.com, where they are searchable and can be attached to Ancestry.com family trees as documents.
For researchers who do not have access to Ancestry.com, a high quality digital copy of this book is available at the Elizabethville Area Historical Society . For further information, contact Marilyn Henninger.
Hello, I cannot find a phone number for this church. I am contacting you from the Gardens at Blue Ridge nursing home. I am in the process of filling out a Medicaid application for Charles Buffington. Charles states that he has a burial plot within your church’s cemetary. If you can please call me at 717-652-2345, ext.1114, thank you!
Try contacting Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home (a.k.a. Minnich) in Elizabethville or Millersburg. (717) 362-8522. They would know the contact person at the church & cemetery.
