The Historical Society of Millersburg and Upper Paxton Township recently concluded a special project begun in January 2021, to review, research and update the history of the Wiconisco Canal Basin in Millersburg. The results were published in brochure format, copies of which were made available to members in May 2023.
Included in the brochure are the following:
- 20 photographs
- An 1879 map of the canal basin
- A large (11″ x 17″) map produced in 2022 by Andred Stroud
- Paragraphs describing the significance of the canal to commerce and transportation
- Wiconisco Canal Timeline (1812-1889)
Individuals and groups credited with working on the project were: Andrew Stroud (map); Dr. Paul Marr; Martha Campbell-Fox; Charles Petrillo; Jack Dillman; The National Canal Museum/Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor; and for their prior research, Earl Tobias and Bill Schreffler.
