A newspaper photograph of a mantel clock crafted from anthracite coal. The photo appeared in the West Schuylkill Press and Pine Grove Herald, Tremont, July 6, 1951, along with the following caption:
Gleaming like highly polished ebony, this beautiful electric clock encased in anthracite coal, was presented to the Hon. William S. Livengood Jr., secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Internal Affairs, by the Stevens Coal Company, following Mr. Livengood’s keynote address at the official opening of Tremont Homecoming Week on Monday.
This is one example of many souvenir or memento items fashioned from anthracite coal. Can any blog reader supply examples of other items?
