An undated photograph of the mine tunnel entrance at Bear Gap near Lykens and Wiconisco, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, which led to the air hole and the proposed access opening on the north side of Short Mountain. Miners who lived on the north side of the mountain at Gratz, who walked to work entered the mining area through an air hole, had to climb down a ladder to the level where mining was taking place. The proposed tunnel on the north side of the mountain was begun and worked on for many years, but never completed.
