MILLERSBURG AIRMAN LOSES LIFE OVERSEAS
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Bailey Sr., of Millersburg, have been advised by the War Department that their son, Second Lieutenant Benjamin Bailey Jr., was killed in a plane crash in England, 11 October 1944.
Lieutenant Bailey , who was 22 years old, was a member of a Flying Fortress plane crew. He entered the Army Air Forces 11 April 1943 and trained at Montgomery, Alabama, Avon Park, Florida, and Columbus, Mississippi.
Lieutenant Bailey was graduated from the Millersburg High School, class of 1940, and entered Pennsylvania State College in the fall of that year.
As a college student, he served as managing editor of the Penn State Froth and sports editor of the Daily Collegian. He also had been president of the Sigma Delta Chi social fraternity.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin B. Bailey; three sisters, Mrs. John Novinger, and Mrs. Dennis Underkoffler, both of Millersburg; Miss Joanne Bailey, at home; and three brother, Stanley Bailey, Lee Bailey and Glenn Bailey, all serving with the armed forces.
