A photograph taken about 1950 of the Hill Church, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Mifflin Township near Berrysburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
This brick building was erected in 1875 and dedicated in 1876. Steam heating was added in 1915, a two-manual pipe organ in 1930, electric lights in 1931, and re-worked spire with lightning rod in 1932. The interior was restored to colonial style in 1942, a new Moeller pipe organ installed in 1944 and a new steeple added in 1957.
The bell, which was cast in Philadelphia in 1856, and was installed in the previous log church, was moved to belfry of the new church in 1877, but in 1937 it cracked and was silent for a year. In 1938, it was replaced by a larger bell.
This building serves the congregation to the present day.
