The photo was given to the Pine Grove Press Herald by Abel Kintzel of Pine Grove, R. D., for publication in its “Down Memory Lane” feature on July 31, 1975. Kintzel indicated that in 1975, the school building was the home of the Leroy Clark family and was directly across the valley from the Harry Kurtz Dairy Farm. He also stated that six students who were enrolled at Big Dam School were not present for the photo: Harrison Stump; John Miller; Edward Zerbe; Mabel Zerbe; Ellen Stump; and Ida Noll.
