From the Lykens Standard, June 29, 1906:
BLOW ON HEAD WITH BASEBALL BAT PROVES FATAL
On Monday evening while George Zimmerman of Williamstown, was playing ball at that place with a number of companions, a dispute arose about batting and in a fit of anger James Graham dealt him a stunning blow on the head with a bat. Zimmerman, in a dazed condition, managed to walk to his home when it was seen that he was seriously injured, and medical aid summoned at once. Dr. R. P. Haas arrived shortly afterward and finding the young man’s injury to be of a very serious nature called Dr. G. W. Stites in consultation. An examination was made upon which the physicians gave it as their opinion that he was suffering from concussion of the brain. He died 24 hours after being struck, at the age of 15 years. He was the son of the late Joseph Zimmerman, who was drowned in Clark’s Creek four years ago while on a fishing expedition. George was the only support of his mother, who is left with three children to mourn his early death. The funeral will take place at 2 o’clock this afternoon from his late home and burial will be made at Wiconisco.
