Following the death of Carrie [Hoke] McGeary on 30 June 1941, forelady of the Elizabethville Dress Factory, Elizabethville, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, the Local 108, of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union, presented the following verse in her memory:
Then fell upon the shop a sudden gloom,
A shadow on those workers downward bending;
O death, like dream of wretchedness and sadness,
A little weeping would have eased our hearts
For the worker who was weary and was worn
Then suddenly she passed from our midst.
Sweet in her memory that never shall fade.
