An 1884 photograph of the Centralia Hose Company No. 1 fire house, Centralia, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, with a old piece of horse-drawn fire apparatus in front.
This photo appeared as part of the “Looking Back” feature of the Pottsville Republican & Herald, June 3, 2007.
Centralia is located less than two miles north of Ashland, Schuylkill County. About three miles to the west is Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, and about the same distance to the east is Girardville, Schuylkill County.
Today, Centralia is a ghost town due to an out-of-control mine fire that started in 1962 directly under the town.
