An undated photograph of Claude B. Slingwine of Clarks Valley, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, and members of his family.
SCHUYLKILL MEMORY LANE QUIZ
Clue: The photo this week is a very unusual one, because it is rare to have such a spanse of scenery and for a camera to cover such a wide area on a photo. The man waving from the horse’s carriage is still living in this area and is still active for his 83 years. Others shown are part of his family. By necessity the man was a man of many trades, known especially for one, self taught, which included much cutting up and brushing off.
Answer: Last week’s photo shows Claude B. Slingwine of Clarks Valley waving from the milk wagon. He is a self-educated master barber and a man of many trades. Other members of the Slingwine family shown are George Slingwine, Claude’s father, holding Albert Slingwine, Claude’s brother; also Marie Slingwine, Claude’s sister; Lena Slingwine, Claude’s mother; and Jeanette Slingwine, Claude’s sister.
The home where Claude still lives started out as a log cabin with two rooms downstairs and two rooms upstairs and was built by his father Philip Slingwine.
