The Township of Coal is unique in its geographical situation in that it comprises all the outlying districts surrounding Shamokin Borough. The population being distributed over such a large area necessitates the transporting of approximately four hundred students by bus to the West End High School The remaining three hundred live within walking distance of the school. For some, school begins at 7:45 when the first school bus begins its rounds, for others, 8:45 when the less energetic wend their way to the high school
When these students leave the bus, they have to walk a short distance to reach the school. Upon their arrival, they turn the corridors into a surging mass of people, all hustling to and fro….
