Millersburg Lady Fatally Injured
Mrs. Cora Straup, 80. Dies in Hospital; Three Others Hurt
Mrs. Cora Straup, 80, of Lebo Avenue, Millersburg, was fatally injured in an automobile accident, Sunday at 7:30 p.m., at Center, a village near Thompsontown. She died in Lewistown Hospital the same night.
Her son, Melvin N. Straup, 32, Gratz, service station proprietor, suffered a knee injury, and his wife, Faye [Enders] Straup, 29, lacerations of the forehead, fractures of the right wrist and knee. She remains a patient at Lewistown Hospital.
Leroy F. Pry, 20, of Mexico, near the scene of the accident, driver of the car which collided with the Straup machine, suffered an arm fracture and lacerations.
Mr. Straup said the crash occurred when the Pry car suddenly swerved out of its traffic lane into the path of his car. The collision was nearly head-on. Both cars were demolished.
Mrs. Cora Straup, widow of Harry Straup, who died 14 years ago, was a daughter of the late Samuel Schlegel and Anna [Bohner] Schlegel and was born near Pillow, 25 September 1870.
Surviving are the following children: Paul Straup, Marlin Straup, Charles Straup, and Fred Straup and Mrs. Guy Watts, Millersburg; Irvin Straup, of Fisherville; Melvin Straup, of Gratz; Russsell Straup, Baltimore; and Mrs. Gerald W. Dieter, Lewistown; a sister, Mrs. Katie Snyder, Freeburg; four brothers, James Schlegel and Oscar Schlegel, Manheim; and William Schlegel, Pillow; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services from the Sterner Funeral Home, 217 North Street, this Thursday at 2 p.m., Rev. James W. Emerick officiating. Interment in the Berrysburg Cemetery.
