From the Lykens Standard, December 14, 1906:
SUICIDE AT DIETRICH
Henry Zimmerman of Dietrich, who has been despondent for some time, committed suicide by shooting himself in the top of the head about 11 o’clock Sunday morning, death ensuing about three hours later. His wife and sister had gone upstairs to dress, as they expected company, and left Zimmerman, who was sitting on a chair, with the baby, which was in a go-cart. They had been upstairs only a short time when they heard a report and on rushing downstairs saw Mr. Zimmerman still sitting on the chair, but in a semi-conscious state, swinging his arms wildly about him. In his right hand was the revolver with which he had shot himself and fearing that he might attempt to use it on them Mrs. Zimmerman grabbed up her child and with her sister ran to the nearest neighbor and informed them what had occurred. Several men went to the Zimmerman home and took the revolver from him when it was found that only contained an empty cartridge shell.
Mr. Zimmerman was made as comfortable as possible and medical aid summoned, but nothing could be done for him and death occurred at the time above stated.
Mr. Zimmerman married Anna Row, daughter of Abner Row of Coaldale, Wiconisco Township, in August, 1905. He was to have moved to this place [Lykens] last Monday, expecting to secure employment at the mines. He was 26 years of age. The remains were taken to the home of his father-in-law by Undertaker Buffington of Elizabethville on Tuesday, from whence the funeral was held at 10 a. m. Wednesday, Rev. H. E. Hildt, officiating, assisted by Rev. L. M. Fetterolf.
