On 5 August 1989, Tracy Kroh, a 17-year-old honor student at Halifax Area High School, left her home at Enterline, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, to deliver some items to her sister who lived north of Halifax, Dauphin County. She was never seen again. Her locked car was found in the town square at Millersburg, several miles north of her sister’s home.
This post is part of a series chronicling the efforts to find out what happened to her. To date, although nothing conclusive has been determined, she was most likely the victim of foul play. The case of her disappearance remains unsolved to this day.
This story is told through news articles appearing in regional newspapers available from Newspapers.com.

Authorities continue 25-year search for women
By Valerie Pritchett, abc News
HARRISBURG – It has been nearly 25 years since the disappearance of a Halifax teenager. But while decades have passed, Tracy Kroh is not forgotten.
Police have released a photograph of what she might look like today.
Kroh was 17 years old when she went missing August 5, 1989. She had planned to visit her sister at a nearby trailer park, found she wasn’t there, but did not return home that night.
Her car, a 1971 Mercury Comet, was found in Millersburg’s square the following evening. Four years later, parts of her wallet and driver’s license were found along the Wiconisco Creek near Elizabethville.
“After 25 years, we can say that this was a criminal act that resulted in death,” Dauphin County First Assistance District Attorney Fran Chardo said.
“The circumstances of her death are such that she had every intention of returning and something prevented her from doing that. She was very close to her family.”
Her family continues to grieve and search.
“We’ll never close this case until we get finality for this family, and hat has been the most heartbreaking thing about this case, as in any case where we don’t know what happened,” Chardo said. “As more time goes in, we get more and more frustrated.”
Anyone with information that could help solve the case is asked to call The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 800-843-5678 or 800-THE-LOST.
