Negro Attacks Elizabethville Girl
On Sunday evening, about 8 o’clock, a big burly negro who had been stranded from the Gratz Fair attacked the 12-year-old daughter of Dewin Bechtel near the depot at Elizabethville, while the child was en route to her home on East Railroad Street. The negro forced a revolver into the girl’s face and threatened to shoot if she made an outcry. A small child who was with the girl ran crying, attracting some young men who immediately spread the report. Until a posse was formed the negro escaped to the mountain and could not be found.
