The following information was provided by Miller in the preface to School Days:
On the following pages are the names of the graduates of Elizabethville High School by classes with pictures (where they were available). 56 classes graduated – the first one in 1896, the last one in 1954 – the Alpha and Omega. There is no record of a class having graduated in 1897 [and] no record of a class graduating in 1899. Harry Graeff would have graduated that year, but is reported to have been a soldier in the Spanish-American War. There was no class to graduate in 1920. This was the year when the high school was changed from a second class one of three classes, viz., Junior, Middler, Senior, to a first class high school of four classes, viz., Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior.
The book begins with a history of schools in Elizabethville followed by a listing of the 883 graduates by class year. This listing also includes the name of the principal. Then follows pictures of each of the 56 classes, with all graduates identified. There is a brief essay about “some observations regarding the graduates.” The book then concludes with an alphabetical listing of all 883 graduates, in each case giving their year of graduation.
An original copy of this book is part of the collection of the Elizabethville Area Historical Society. A high quality digital copy of the entire book is available. For further information, contact Marilyn Henninger. Individual class pictures may also be obtained.
