An undated colorized post card view of the Hotel Snyder, Elizabethville, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, which opened for business in early 1905.
The Elizabethville Echo of April 13, 1905, provided the following description of the modern facility:
The most beautiful, attractive and complete in detail of any public house outside of the Capital City is not any too strong language in describing our new “Hotel Snyder.”
The location could not be better, and every guest once beholding the fine views from its balconies will drink in nature’s beautiful scenery to such an extent that they will want to return again.
The furnishing of the house is nearing completion, the rooms are light and cheery, acetylene gas for light, radiators for warmth, bath and toilet rooms, all new oak furniture, and the floors cosily carpeted.
The first guest to register after the opening was James Miller of Philadelphia, who has for years been stopping with the proprietor Charles T. Snyder, while in business at Lykens.
City people, who seek rest and recreation during the hot months will find this resort first class in every respect, for here we have pure mountain water, good health, and many facilities that some larger towns do not enjoy.
