An undated photograph of Newton Hall, the oldest home in Elizabethville, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
At the time the photo was taken, the building was the headquarters of the Lykens Valley Mutual Fire Insurance Company.
None of the individuals in the photo are identified.
According to information in the Elizabethville Area Bicentennial Program Book published in 2017, the home was built in 1842 by John Paul Jr., who lived here until his death in 1868.
Later, it was the home of author and poet Harvey Monroe Miller who was born here on September 27, 1871. Miller was best known for creating “Solly Hulsbuck,” a Pennsylvania Dutch character through which he told folk stories. Harvey died on 17 June 1939 and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery,
