The obituary of Fred Harner appeared in the Elizabethville Echo, Elizabethville, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 18 November 1894:
Fred Harner Dead
Fred Harner, who had been ailing for some time, was relieved from his sufferings on Sunday morning, by death. Mr. Harner was a very useful citizen, who had contributed much toward the upbuilding of the town, and the Lutheran Church of which he was a member has sustained a severe loss. His wife preceded him several years ago. Nine children survive him. He was buried in Matter’s United Brethren Cemetery, where the remains of his life partner are resting.
He was aged 78 years, 4 months and 21 days, and the immediate cause of his death was pneumonia. He was born at Pinegrove, Schuylkill County, and was remarkably successful in life, having accumulated considerable property.
The funeral rites were conducted by Revs. Pflueger and Wingert of this place.
