An enlargement of the photograph and caption that appeared in the Pottsville Republican, 15 November 1966, at the time of the disastrous fire at Valley View Engerprises, Valley View, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
The caption reads:
Firemen battle dense smoke as they pour water into factory in Valley View this morning. Portion of roof at left is all that remains of top of structure. Firemen from eight communities battled the $100,000 blaze which left 140 to 160 workers without jobs. The Valley View Enterprises Inc. factory, on Maple St., Valley View, manufactures women’s house coats.

Special thanks to Jerry Umholtz of Valley View for a collection of news articles and pictures related to the fire, rebuilding, and re-opening of this plant. His grandmother was one of those who worked at the plant and his father was across the street waiting for the school bus when the fire broke out.
