On 22 August 1936, the Harrisburg Telegraph reported the following in regard to the halting of construction on the new addition to the Lykens High School, Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania:
Lykens, August 22 – Construction work on the new one-story brick addition to the Lykens High School building, ceased last week when funds appropriated for the project became exhausted. The building is to contain a large combination auditorium and gymnasium, a science laboratory and a home economics room. The interior will be completed when more funds are appropriated.
