Gary Collins played football at Williamstown High School, Williamstown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, under Coach Frank Snyder. Then he played at Maryland from 1959-1961 under Coach Tom Nugent and with a career record of 12 touchdowns, was called “the greatest end in Terrapin history”. In 1961, Gary Collins was an All-American and was eighth in the Heisman Trophy competition, which that year was won by Ernie Davis of Syracuse. In the draft, he was the first selection of the Cleveland Browns where he spent ten years from 1962-1971. Coach Blanton Collier‘s Browns were in two straight National Football League championship games in 1964 and 1965, where they won the title in the first, defeating the Cleveland Browns, and lost in the second to the Green Bay Packers.
Gary Collins was a two-time All-Pro who had 331 career receptions, 5299 yards, and 70 touchdowns.
