Gertrude Gise was born about 1877, the daughter of Civil War veteran and veterinarian Jonathan B. Gise (1840-1915) and Lillie [Boyer] Gise (1847-1896). After her mother died, the father and Gertrude took up residence in Gratz near the Evangelical Church. Gertrude was an accomplished musician and teacher who gave private lessons and was the church organist in addition to being a regular Sunday School teacher. She died in Conoy Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 6 March 1948, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Riegle. Riegle was born in Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, and for many years he was a teacher in the one room schools of the township and in the Gratz school.
