LOSES LIFE IN WILLIAMSTOWN MINE ACCIDENT
George U. Hopple, 51, of Williamstown, was killed when caught by a fall of coal in the Williamstown mines of the Susquehanna Collieries Company Wednesday morning. A companion, J. Persiponko also of Williamstown, escaped with contusions and abrasions of the body.
Mr. Hopple was a son of the late Aaron Hopple and Ida Hopple, and was a native of Millersburg. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Jessie [Ferron] Hopple, of Williamstown; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Bingaman, of Williamstown; and Miss Louise Hopple, at home; and five sons, Russel Hopple; Charles Hopple; George Hopple; Joseph Hopple; and Kenneth Hopple, all of Williamstown. Other survivors are a brother, John Hopple, of Williamstown, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from the residence at 2:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. Earl Thomas, pastor of the Lykens Methodist Church, will officiate, an interment will be in Fairview Cemetery at Williamstown.
