A 1911 photograph of the Gowan Weist‘s peach trees on what was described as a model Lykens Valley farm in a article that appeared in the Harrisburg Telegraph, 16 March 1911. The article promoted the coming of the Midland Pennsylvania Railroad, which was being built at the time. Supposedly, Weist’s peach crop would have a wider market once the railroad was completed. Unfortunately, the railroad failed.
