According to an article in the Pottsville Republican and Herald, September 10, 2007, the entrance was named and dedicated as part of the 2007 Gratz Fair program:
At 4 p.m. Sunday on the Midway stage, the main entry to the fair will be named “The Rodney L. Shade Memorial Entrance” during a dedication to honor the late Rodney L. Shade, Gratz, who died in February and was involved in fair preparations since 1981.
Rodney L. Shade died on February 12, 2007. His obituary appeared in the Pottsville Republican and Herald, February 16, 2007.
Rodney L. Shade
Rodney L. Shade, 53, of Lykens, died Monday at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.
Born in Lykens, December 25, 1963, he was a son of Janice [Kissinger] Shade of Gratz and the late Jack E. Shade.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard
A graduate of Upper Dauphin Class of 1971, he was a member of Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz. He retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg.
He was a member of Gratz Fire Company, Gratz Fair, the assistant secretary of Gratz Borough Council, Lykens Township V.F.W., and the Erdmans Sportsman Club.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jane Shade, Lykens; a daughter, Tara J. Shade, Marysville; a son, Matthew R. Shade, husband of Megan Shade, Gratz; two brothers, Jack E. Shade Jr., husband of Cindy Shade, and Craig Shade, husband of Sandra Shade, Gratz; a grandson, Caleb Shade, Gratz.
Family and friends are invited to call Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz, from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
A religious service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Barry Ridge officiating.
Interment will be in Gratz Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions cna be made to Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz, Pennsylvania 17030.
James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, has charge of arrangements.
