Gratz-Porter H. S. Scrap for Base Ball Honors
With but one defeat marked against them the Gratz High School baseball team emerged winners of the lower end group of the Dauphin-Schuylkill Scholastic League. By this victory, Gratz has earned the right to meet the Porter High School, winners of the upper end, for the league title.
The record of the Gratz team is all the more remarkable because of the limited amount of material to draw from. This is the second year Gratz has won the right to engage in the post-season championship series.
In the first game played at Porter last Thursday, Gratz dropped a fine fought game to that team, 3-2
Gratz’s record for the season included the following games:
April 21 – Gratz 3; Berrysburg 4
April 26 – Gratz 10; Elizabethville 6
April 29 – Gratz 5; Millersburg 1
May 3 – Gratz 14; Elizabethville 6
May 6 – Gratz 7; Halifax 1
May 13 – Gratz 8; Millersburg 5
May 17 – Gratz 6; Berrysburg 1
May 20 – Gratz 14; Halifax 2
Teams of the two league divisions during the 1932 season comprised:
Porter, Tower City, Williamstown, Wiconisco and Lykens, of the upper end; Gratz, Berrysburg, Elizabethville, Millersburg and Halifax of the lower end. Porter copped the league championship by winning the second game at Gratz on Tuesday by a 6-0 score.
