A photo of the 8th Annual Reunion of the Gratz Old Timers, taken on 8 May 1956 by the Wingard Studio of Millersburg, at the old Gratz Community Center, Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The building was later called the “Fuzzy Bunny,” and presently it is a restaurant.
The organization was founded on 24 September 1948 by those who attended Gratz High School between 1905 and 1910. To qualify for membership, the individual had to be at least 50 years old and attended or graduated from the local schools. Over the years the organization grew and later held its annual dinners at the new community center, the former elementary school building. In order to maintain the size of the reunion organization, children and friends of those who attended the Gratz schools were later invited to attend as guests. But by 2012, due to the age of those who qualified as members, as well as attrition due to death, the remaining members decided to disband.
The persons in the photograph above are not individually identified, but surely include Dr. Clayton J. Umholtz, who served as president for 31 years; and Warren Hassinger, who took over as president after Dr. Umholtz resigned.
