The following news briefs were published in the “Gratz News” section of a local newspaper, 5 December 1934:
Mrs. Carrie Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schminky did shopping in Harrisburg, Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Snyder spent Sunday of last week among relatives in Baltimore, Maryland.
Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Gwyther, Mr. Peter Noll and son Charles Noll, from Wiconisco, spent Sunday of last week at the home of J. H. Witmer and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Schoffstall and daughter Jean Schoffstall, of Brooklyn, New York, spent the week visiting among relatives of this place.
Mrs. Joseph Rissinger, of Enola, spent the week end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Troxell and family.
Miss Marie Buffington and friend, of Washington, D. C., spent the week end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Buffington.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Markel and daughter Ruth Markel, of Loyalton, spent during the week at the home of R. E. Blyler and family.
Quite a number of our sportsmen left during the week for their camps at Potter County, deer hunting.
Mr. and Mrs. William Wingert and children Kenneth Wingert, Billy Wingert, and Reta Wingert, spent the week end with the former’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Wingert in Oberlin.
On Saturday afternoon, December 1st, a number of the members of the American Legion Auxiliary from our local post, had the privilege of attending the Tri-County Council meeting which was held in the Methodist Church at Lykens.
Miss Wood, of Boston, Massachusetts, is the guest at the home of George W. Hoffman and family, north of town.
Visitors during the week at the home of C. U. Kratzer and family were: Rev. and Mrs. A. R. Kratzer of Hatfield; Guy L. Kratzer, Temple University, Philadelphia; Mr. and Mrs. John Kratzer and on Louis Kratzer, of Elizabethville and Miss Jean Schoffstall, of Brooklyn, New York.
Miss Ella Witmer and Howard Barr, of Valley View, spent Thanksgiving Day, with the former’s father, Jacob Witmer, and family.
