The following news briefs were published in the “Gratz News” section of a local newspaper, for the week of 17 January 1927:
Our Fire Department was called to Elizabethville on Sunday evening when the Swab Wagon Company’s Garage burned down. There were seven Fire Departments where to extinguish the fire.
Quite a number of our town people and vicinity attended the inauguration and Farm Products Show at Harrisburg during the week.
Quite a number of our people were to the fire at Elizabethville, Sunday evening.
A number of our miners started for work on Friday morning, but returned back home on account of the icy roads, they being too dangerous to travel.
Quite a number of our town people, who had the lagrippe, have recovered.
Mary Koppenhaver, who is employed at Herndon, is at her home in town at present.
Among those who made fresh sausage this week were: Fred Paul and Mrs. David Clark.
There are quite a number of people in town who have the lagrippe.
Merchant Kades, of Klingerstown, had business in town, Monday.
