The following news briefs were published in the “Gratz News” section of a local newspaper, for the week of 20 October 1927:
The stork has been busy visiting with a couple of families here during the past week. Among them are: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Davis, a baby girl, Monday, October 17th. Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Shade, a baby boy, Friday, October 21. Mrs. Marlin Shade before her marriage was Miss Erma Huntzinger, of Hegins. Mr. and Mrs. John Kissinger, a baby boy, October 14th.
Allen Kissinger, of Sunbury, was seen in town, Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Umholtz and family, Mrs. R. H. Witmer and son Elwood Witmer spent Saturday night at Lykens.
Quite a number of folks of town attended the services at the the Lutheran Church at Elizabethville on Thursday evening, which was delivered by Prof. R. B. Manikam, a native of India and who is now residing at Philadelphia. Prof. Manikam also lectured here at the L. & R. Church, Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Klinger & daughter Marie Klinger, of Lykens, called on the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Reed and family, Sunday.
Miss Mary Wise, of Klingerstown called on her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wise and family, Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Shade and son Walter Shade visited with the latter’s father Edgar Romberger and family at Rough and Ready, Sunday.
Harry Wise of Klingerstown, was seen in town, Saturday.
Margaret Minnick, of Wiconisco, spent the week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hepler and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Blair Schminky and children Jimmie Schminky and Lucille Schminky are visiting at New Cumberland for several days.
Mrs. Emma Schwalm returned home to Fountain after having spent the week at the home of C. U. Kratzer and family.
Paul Umholtz, of town, is a patient at the Polyclinic Hospital at Harrisburg, where he underwent an operation.
Mr. and Mrs. Jon Reed and Mrs. Hess, of Berrysburg, called on Arthur Williams and family, Sunday.
Mrs. R. L. McNally and children Robert McNally and Mary McNally spent the week with relatives and friends at Harrisburg and Penbrook.
Mr. and Mrs. Moss, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chubb and daughter, Miss Thelma Koppenhaver, of Millersburg, spent Sunday at the home of Jacob Kissinger and family.
Miss Hannah Umholtz spent the day at Harrisburg, Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowerman and children, Miss Kathryn Bowerman and David Kissinger made a trip to Harrisburg on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. William Laux, of Tremont, visited at the home of Mrs. Carolyn Miller and family over the weekend.
Urela Koppenhaver spent several days with her aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Reed at Berrysburg.
Harry Zerfing of Millersburg, was seen in town, Saturday.
Jonathan Buffington and family of Valley View, visited with relatives in town, Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Scheib and sons, Mr. and Mrs. John Scheib Jr., and children, of Trevorton, were visiting in town, Sunday.
Minerva Hartman spent the week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Klinger at Hegins.
