One of the earliest known photographs of a confirmation class from the Simeon Reformed Church, Gratz, Dauphin County, was taken on 30 March 1888. With the exception of Rev. William E. Engle, who is seated near the center (#1 in the photo key), the individuals in the picture have not been identified by name.
According to church records, there were fourteen who were members of the Confirmation Class of 1888. However, only thirteen appear in the picture.
The members of the class were: Harry Good; Jacob M. Williard; Lizzie A. Scheib; Susan Elizabeth Kiehner; Anna Margaret Kiehner; Alice C. Umholtz; Mary E. Daniel; Annie C. Williard; Ida S. Scheib; Emma S. Buffington; Laura C. L. Laudenslager; Elizabeth Christiana Scheib; Cora Ellen Kissinger; Katie L. Thomas.
