Photographs taken in March 2011 of the Gratz Water Tower, Spruce Street and South Alley, Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The above photo was taken from the intersection of Spruce Street and State Route 25 (East Market Street).
The tower or tank was built about 1927, shortly after the organization of the Gratz Water Company, which had as its major impetus the Great Gratz Fire of 1924.
The tower is the most prominent landmark of Gratz and it can be seen miles away in all directions. It sits on one of the highest points in the town.
The above view is from North Spruce Street, looking south.
Finally, from the lower or south end of Spruce Street, the water tower can be seen at left center in the above photo.
