Gurney Elwood Chubb, 27 died Monday morning at the home of his father, Gurney Chubb, Lenkerville.
An overseas veteran of World War II, where he served as a Private First Class, young Chubb was injured in a motorcycle accident on Market Square [Millersburg], 4 July 1947, and the following day was admitted to the Veterans Hospital, Lebanon, where he remained a patient until 19 September the same year, when complications developed and he was transferred to the Veterans Hospital, Butler. He was discharged from the latter institution and arrived home on 20 August last, and according to his own remarks, in good health.
Pvt. Chubb was attached to the Medical Department, 118th General Hospital, Leyte, P. I., following his induction into the Army, 8 March 1943. He received his honorable discharge on Leyte, 30 October 1945 and the same day re-enlisted as a cook. He received a medical honorable discharge at Indiantown Gap, 22 February 1946.
He was a member of Steever R. Day Post, No. 326, American Legion, Blaine G. Walter Jr. Post, No. 5507, V.F.W., and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, all of town.
Surviving are his father; two brothers, Marlin E Chubb, Dalmatia, R.D., and Roy A. Chubb, address unknown; two sisters, Mrs. Clinton L. Swinehart, Baltimore, Maryland, and Mrs.. Ralph Crosson, at home, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Rose Hoke, of town.
Services this Thursday at 2 p.m. from Riegle Funeral Home, 512 Market Street, Rev. James W. Emerick officiating, with military rites by Steever R. Day Post, American Legion. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.
