GUY L. L. MILLER, JOLIETT, DIES UNDER COAL FALL AT INDEPENDENT MINE
A 24-year-old Joliett man employed at an independent mining operation for only two days, was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon by a fall of coal following a blast.
The victim, Guy L. Miller, of 31 Joliett Street, was employed at the No. 5 vein slope of the Reiner Coal Company, located between Keffers and Good Spring. Fellow workmen said the victim entered and was caught by a fall of loose coal.
Rescue operations at the scene were carried out by the rescue team of the Independent Miners and Associates, under the direction of Clyde Machamer, president.
A lifelong resident of Joliett, Mr. Miller was a son of Mrs. Ruth [Bendigo] Miller and the late George Miller. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served overseas with the U. S. Army.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, the former Hazel McNeal; one son, Bradley Miller, 3 months old and a daughter, Gwen Miller, 2, also at home.
Also surviving are three brothers, Marvin Miller, Birdsboro; Clair Miller, Orwin; James Miller, Joliett; five sisters, Mrs. Edward Boyer, Good Spring; Mrs. George Brosius, Dornsife; Mrs. Lee Morgan, Hegins; Mrs. Robert Boyer, and Faye Miller, both of Joliett.
Funeral was held Friday afternoon from Minnig Funeral Home, Tremont. Rev. E. Leroy Eberhart, pastor of Williamstown Methodist Church officiated. Interment was made in the Williamstown Methodist Cemetery.
