A representation of the John Meetch House, Halifax, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, produced on a wood block by Hometowne Collectibles for the Halifax Area Historical Society.
On the back of the block is the following description of the John Meetch House:
THE MEETCH HOUSE
Halifax, Pennsylvania
Once the center of a plantation that included two mills, a “stone mill” and a “clover mill”, and a “bank barn.”
The property, now [2005] owned by Mr. and Mrs. William Zeidler, was built near the end of the 18th century by John Meetch and thus named The Meetch House.
Dauphin County histories record a skirmish between early settlers and Native Americans within gunshot of this house.
It also was the site of an inn and toll house, where travelers paid tolls and rested during trips across Peters Mountain.
This was the 18th in a series of these small block collectibles sponsored by the Halifax Area Historical Society. For information on the availability of this item and other items in the series, contact the society through its Facebook page.
