A representation of the Tropical Treat Drive-In, Halifax, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, produced on a wood block by Hometowne Collectibles for the Halifax Area Historical Society.
On the back of the block is the following description of the Tropical Treat:
THE TROPICAL TREAT
Halifax, Pennsylvania
George Weaver and Millie Weaver built the Tropical Treat in 1953 and put the miniature golf course in about a year later. The Treat sold soft ice cream and soft drinks from a walk-up window. There were no seating facilities, so the customers either took the food with them or ate in the car.
Later, Weaver began selling hamburgers for 25 cents, French fries for 15 cents, and chicken and shrimp baskets. IN 1953, 4 ounce ice cream cone cost 10 cents, a 6 ounce cone was 20 cents, and a jumbo cone was 30 cents.
Thomas Rhodes bought the Treat. In 1966 they remodeled and had it opened all year round.
In 1974, Jay Miller and Ardella Miller bought the business and remodeled the Treat to what it looks like today. Other owners were Dave Baker; Mary Miller and Dennis Miller; and currently [2002] William Hale.
This was the 15th in a series of these small block collectibles sponsored by the Halifax Area Historical Society. For information on the availability of this item and other items in the series, contact the society through its Facebook page.
