A photo post card view of Hannah [Rickert] Riegle (1847-1919), a Civil War widow, posing along the east-facing wall of her farmhouse in Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, about 1910 Shortly after her husband Harrison Riegle (1840-1899) died, she purchased this small farm a short distance to the west along Specktown Road, where she established a home to raise her younger children. In the years after her death the farm was owned by her granddaughter, Helen [Hoffman] Dietrich, and became known as the Riegle-Dietrich Homestead where descendants congregated on a regular basis for family gatherings.
Many photos which include Hannah [Rickert] Riegle, known by her family as “Mammy Riegle,” have this wall of the farm house as the background.
The property was sold at auction in June 1977 in order to provide funds for long-term care for Helen and her husband William Dietrich, who at the time were residing in Frey Village in Middletown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Shortly after sale, the property was split and the part of the farm on the south side of Specktown Road was sold to the Gratz V. F. W. Post, where they built their headquarters.
