This unusual family portrait of the Isaac Sitlinger family of Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, features four family members in front of their home and also features two portraits of ancestors which are set up on an easel for the photographer. It is undated. It is believed by some that the lower displayed portrait is of George Sitlinger and Sarah [Klinger] Sitlinger, parents of Isaac. The top portrait has not been identified.
Of the four persons standing in the above portrait, the only one who has been positively identified is Isaac Sitlinger, who is on the right. Possibly, the fist person on the left is Maria [Shade] Sitlinger, the wife of Isaac, and the others are two of their children.
The photograph believed to be that of George Sitlinger, born about 1810 in Germany, and Sarah [Klinger] Sitlinger, his wife, the parents of Isaac Sitlinger is shown above in an enlargement. The tear in the photo is an indication that it may have been removed from its frame at some point or it might be another copy of the same picture. The framed photograph does not appear to have a tear. Or, it may not be the same photograph that is on the easel in the top photo.
