An undated, recent photograph of the house and an outbuilding on the grist mill property in Specktown that was established on this Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania piece of land before 1811 by Jacob Huber, also known as Jacob Hoover.
The house pictured was built by Daniel Buffington about 1864 shortly after he purchased the mill property.
Operating under several different owners, the grist mill served the area for many years. It was located on the banks of Little Wiconisco Creek and was powered by the moving creek water which turned the turbine wheel. In later years, a steam engine powered the mill. In addition to grinding corn, wheat, oats and barley, an adjacent saw mill turned out lumber for construction purposes.
An earlier photograph of the home on this property is shown above. The persons on the porch have not been identified.
