A colorized studio portrait of Jacob P. Elm (1836-1916) and his wife Christina S. [Vogel] Elm (1840-1925) taken in 1913 on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
During the Civil War, Jacob served in the 4th New York Cavalry, Company D, as a Bugler. He was mustered into service in September 1861 and honorably discharged at Alexandria Virginia, at the end of June 1862. For his war service, Jacob collected a pension, and after his death, his wife collected widow benefits.
Both Jacob and Christina were born in Germany. They appear in the 1870 census for Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pennsylvania, but after that moved to Wiconisco Township, Dauphin County, where they remained until their deaths. Both are buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lykens, Dauphin County.
