A photograph of the only surviving old structure on what was in 1875, the 109 acre farm of the Estate of Jonathan Hoover Jr., Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
The farm was part of two tracts originally conveyed to the Hoffman family by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. One of the tracts was patented in 1796 and the other was patented in 1799.
The Jonathan Hoover Jr. farm was located in Specktown just north of Specktown Road as shown on the 1875 map above. The covered bridge where Specktown Road crossed the creek was known at the time as the Hoover Bridge, bur later was called the Specktown Covered Bridge. It was demolished about 1950 and replaced by a concrete span when improvements were made to the road.
