GLOBE CLOTHING HOUSE – Joseph Hoffman, Proprietor
Among the reputable and successful young business men of Lykens that have had a tremendous career here, there are perhaps none more deserving of more special mention than Joseph Hoffman, the genial proprietor of the Globe Clothing Store. Mr. Hoffman came to this borough as a mere boy, scarcely 16 of age in 1896, endowed with a very small amount of capital, but a vast amount of energy, push and determination. He started in a small way and continued to grow for six years until business required more room, and moved into his present establishment in 1902. Since then Mr. Hoffman’s success has been even more phenomenal than before, and he has made his store recognized for everything in the clothing and men’s furnishing line, such as Kirschbaum’s hand-made clothing, Cluett-Peabody and Company’s shirts, gold bond hats, Packard shoes for men, Queen Quality shoes for women, everything in the line of men’s furnishings and a fine line of ladies’ and misses’ cloaks. By much industry and close attention to the demands of his trade, Mr. Hoffman has more than doubled his patronage during the last six years, and his splendidly dressed show windows have been the subject of much favorable comment from the people for miles around. This store is always one of the first to obtain and display all the latest novelties, and Mr. Hoffman is today enjoying a well-earned distinction as one of the borough’s most prominent and successful business men whose friends are legion. He is no knocker or piker, but always attends to his own business.
