A 1916 photo post card image of Kathryn E. Dietrich (1915-2003) sitting in a sulky at the Riegle-Dietrich homestead in Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Kathryn was the daughter of William E. Dietrich (1896-1977) and Helen [Hoffman] Dietrich (1895-1977), and at the time the photograph was taken, was living with her parents in Harrisburg. On a visit to the homestead, the sulky was presented as a gift by Hannah Louisa [Rickert] Riegle (1847-1919), Kathryn’s great-grandmother. After Hannah died in 1919, Kathryn’s parents purchased the homestead and moved there from Harrisburg. The sulky was kept at the homestead, and over the many ensuing years, small children who visited were given rides and photographed in it. After 1977, when her parents died, Kathryn took the sulky to her home in the Atlantic City area and when she died in 2003, the family donated it to a historical society in the Lykens Valley area along with a copy of the above picture.
