An undated photograph of a Klinger family brother and sister. The photographer’s name was J. P. King of Waterloo, Iowa. On the back of the photo are the words “Grand Pa,” which could indicate that the boy in the photo is someone’s grandfather, or the photo could have been given to the “Grand Pa” of the children pictured.
This photograph was found loose in a Klinger family album. This is not a carte de visite, although many of the photos mounted in the album are.
An explanation of the album:
The undated carte de visite photo or photos shown here are from a Klinger family album. Carte de visite photographs were popular during the Civil War period and for a time afterward. If there is an identification or suggested identification, it is given with the photo.
This family branch originally settled in the area around Klingerstown, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, and Erdman, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Some or most of the members of this family branch later moved west.
The album is in a private collection and the owner wishes to remain anonymous. However, the scan or scans shown here were done with permission in the hopes that the identities or descriptions could be confirmed and/or that any unidentified photos could be identified. Unfortunately, permission was not given remove photos from the album due to its fragility. Usually, carte de visite photos have the name of the photographer on the back, and if from the Civil War period have tax stamps affixed.
