Congrats Chaplain Rex. The role of Chaplain in time of war is underappreciated by those back home. I served with the 4th Infantry in Pleiku, Central Highlands, on Easter Sunday (03/29/70). Most of the 4th ID had moved to An Khe, leaving behind a skeleton force in Camp Enari. We attended Easter Mass on the front steps of the Camp’s chapel, given that a recent flair had destroyed the Chapel roof. The Chaplain asked if their was an “altar boy” in the audience who could assist him in mass. Being the only candidate to do so, I volunteered to be of help. It was the first and only time that I was an altar boy.
