A view looking south from the balcony of the old railroad station at Millersburg (Lenkerville), Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, to the yards of the Northern Central Railroad (later the Pennsylvania Railroad). The rails coming into the picture from the left are from the Lykens Valley Railroad (Summit Branch Railroad) where the connection was made to the north-south line. The “x” switches are the old-style stub switches where the end of the rail was moved to meet the end of the rail of the switching track. These switches were largely replaced after the Civil War with tapered-rail switches, which are still in use today. The yard buildings to the right of the tracks were primarily used as storage sheds.
