FUNERAL FOR PROMINENT PORTER TOWNSHIP RESIDENT HELD FRIDAY
Leonard Stiely, age 64 years, died at his home in Tower City September 1st, after an illness of several months. Mr. Stiely had resided in Porter Township most of his life, and removed to Tower City only a short time ago.
He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Stiely and was a native of the Gratz community, removing to Muir when a young man, to engage in mining. He had however, engaged in farming for thirty years prior to retiring because of ill health. He was a member of Orwin Reformed Church and the United Mine Workers of America.
Survivors are his wife, formerly Miss Clara Klinger, and nine children: Mrs. Vesta Houtz, Tower City; Dora Shope [Mrs. Ray Shope], Muir; Grace Kissinger [Mrs. Harry Kissinger], Orwin; Mayme Heberling [Mrs. Edgar Heberling], Port Chester, New York; Ada Bendigo [Mrs. Frank Bendigo], Orwin; Stella Long [Mrs. William Long] of Muir; Clair Stiely, Ray Stiely and Roy Stiely, all of Orwin. Other survivors are five sisters: Edna Stiely, of Alabama; Mabel Stiely of Miami, Florida; Mrs. Alice Lyons, Darien, Connecticut; Mrs. Jerry Strawhecker of Lebanon; and Mrs. Jacob Winters of Hartford, Connecticut.
Funeral services were held from the residence last Friday morning and interment was made in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery at Orwin. Further services were held in St. Peter’s Reformed Church at that place, with the pastor, Rev. D. K. Daub, officiating.
